TPN achieves top performance

Topec Nigeria (TPN) has agreed a five-year Operations & Maintenance (O&M) brewery contract in Ijebu-Ode and Awo-Omamma, Nigeria. The contracts were signed on 2 February 2016, and operation was taken over on 1 March. “This is an example of premium performance,” says Anton Heinsius.

A large brewery in Nigeria approached TPN with a call for a proposal for an O&M contract for its two breweries in Ijebu-Ode and Awo-Omamma.
TPN, based in the Nigerian port city of Lagos, is a subsidiary of TPN Nigeria Netherlands. Its activities are focused on Africa. The company is concerned with the engineering, installation and maintenance of electrical systems, and ensures the availability of electricity where and when necessary.

Complete service
“Because of the experience that the brewery has with TPN at locations in Ibadan, Ama Enugu and Aba, and with which we have had an O&M contract for some years, the request was based on the existing contract,” explains Anton Heinsius, Account Manager Service at TPN Nigeria. “When putting together the contracts, our basic premise is always that the customer must have a reliable power supply at a competitive price.”

Depending on the activities, TPN has two types of contract: Maintenance (M) contracts and O&M contracts. “Under an ‘M’ contract, we are delivering the preventive maintenance schedule and carrying out any repairs. Training courses are also an important part of the scope,” says Anton Heinsius.
An O&M contract assures the customer of a complete service. “We then deploy permanent people who are available 24/7 on shifts to operate and clean machines and the powerhouse, carry out daily and weekly maintenance and perform minor repairs. The benefits speak for themselves. Our aim is to optimise maintenance and at the same time to operate cost effectively. TPN specialises in providing its customers with a complete service, and assuring them of a stable and reliable energy supply.”

Record time
The contracts were signed on 2 February 2016, and operation was taken over on 1 March. The permanent TPN crew is made up of local in-house people who receive extensive training and education from TPN. “All those concerned performed perfectly. The project was delivered in record time. Two new crews needed to be put together. Some of these from the existing O&M locations, while the remaining employees were newly recruited. The outstanding vacancies at the existing locations will be filled with new personnel. This means that we can continue to offer our employees career opportunities.”
